Special characteristics of the region

Jura stretches along the border between Switzerland and France and is known for its breathtaking mountain scenery. The highest peak in the Jura is the Crêt de la Neige at 1,720 meters. The region is also known for its numerous waterfalls and gorges, which provide a unique backdrop.

Places to visit

One of the most famous destinations in the Jura is the Creux du Van, an imposing rocky basin with a height of 1,400 meters. Lac de Joux and Lac des Brenets are also very popular with visitors. Embark on one of the numerous hikes and discover the picturesque valleys or the rich wildlife on a wildlife watching tour.

The Jura is a paradise for nature lovers and adventurers. Hikers get their money's worth here, but cyclists and water sports enthusiasts will also find plenty of opportunities. Discover the area on a canoe trip or a stand-up paddle excursion. In winter, the region also offers opportunities for skiers and snowboarders.

Events, festivals and traditions

The Mont-Soleil Festival in August attracts visitors with a mix of music, art and sustainability. In June, there is the traditional Saignelégier Jazz Festival, which attracts jazz lovers from all over the world. In September, there is the Rock Altitude Festival in Le Locle. During the summer, there are also various traditional festivals, such as the Chüechlifest in Tramelan or the Bénichon Festival in La Chaux-de-Fonds, where regional specialties can be enjoyed.

Best time to travel

The Jura can be visited all year round, but the best time is from May to September, when the weather is best and most outdoor activities are possible. In winter, winter sports activities are also possible.

Regional specialities

The Jura is known for its delicious cheeses, such as Comté (similar to Gruyere). Also try the specialty "Saucisse aux choux", a sausage with cabbage and potatoes. Or the cream cake "Toétché jurassien", absinthe ice cream parfait and the Vully cake.
