Special characteristics of the region

The Canton of Lucerne is particularly well known for the city with the same name on Lake Lucerne with its many historical landmarks. But the rural areas such as the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, Sörenberg, the Napf region and the Seetal, dotted with mountains, lakes and forests, also invite you to linger in the impressive countryside.

Places to visit

In addition to the sights in the city of Lucerne, such as the Swiss Museum of Transport, the Bourbaki Panorama and the Lion Monument, a variety of mountain experiences await you outside the city. Top panoramas and hikes can be found on the Rigi, Pilatus, Titlis and Stanserhorn. But a visit to the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch and the Napf region is also worthwhile.

Activities

Lucerne is particularly suitable for camping fans who want to enjoy both nature and the city. The region is ideal for summer and winter camping and offers numerous activities for families, couples, individual travelers and groups.

Events, festivals and traditions

Thanks to the Lucerne Concert and Congress Hall, a spectacular venue, the Lucerne Festival, the World Band Festival and the Lucerne Blues Festival, among others, are held annually. At the weekly market, on the other hand, you can buy local and fresh products every Tuesday and Saturday from 7 to 12.

Best time to travel

The best time for camping in the Lucerne region is from April to November. The summer season offers pleasant temperatures and many outdoor activities. If it does get too warm, a dip in the lake is the perfect way to cool off. Also in winter you can enjoy cultural activities or go skiing and discover other winter sports activities in the area.

Regional specialities

In Lucerne you should definitely try the traditional Lucerne Chügelipastete, the Lucerne Birewegge and the Lucerne beer. Lucerne gingerbread and Lucerne carnival pastries are also regional specialties and a must for those with a sweet tooth.
