For canyoning enthusiasts, the Nala inferiore offers a tour that is among the most beautiful Ticino has to offer, with its varied jumps and a slide up to 15 meters long. Our favorite swimming spot is located where the canyoning tour begins. The canyoning tour ends in the paradisiacal Pozzon de Osogna, a well-known local swimming spot with a waterfall that flows into a natural stone basin.

THE SELF-SUFFICIENT CABIN CAPANNA AL GHIRO IS LOCATED IN THE HILLS OF OSOGNA IN THE RIVIERA VALLEY, TICINO. THE SMALL, MOSTLY DESERTED HAMLET OF CÖMBRA IS ONLY REACHABLE ON FOOT VIA A STEEP 45-MINUTE ASCENT – A PERFECT RETREAT FOR THOSE SEEKING SIMPLICITY AND A RESOURCE-FRIENDLY HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE.

At 650 m above sea level, the cabin is nestled in a fascinating rocky landscape between chestnut trees and natural meadows, offering panoramic views over the entire valley.

Surroundings and Atmosphere:

* Despite its secluded location, the Riviera Valley is a lively place. The cabin does not offer absolute silence but an authentic experience of Ticino country life with typical valley sounds. For guests seeking complete tranquility, this place might not be ideal.

Total of 35m² living space for max. 4 people, divided into:

* Cozy, well-equipped kitchen with a traditional 100-year-old wood stove, cold water supply from a natural spring (May-Oct), drinking water filter, and a self-built clay pot cooler for food refrigeration without electricity consumption.

* Two small, comfortable bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with bunk beds.
* Beds fully equipped with wool blankets, duvets, and pillows. Small wood stove, extra bed, hot water bottles, chest of drawers, a few books and games.
* Dog-friendly: dog bed, blanket, and bowl available.

* Bathroom with wood-fired hot water boiler (May-Oct), solar shower, composting toilet, hand-operated washing machine, towels, and washcloths.

* Entrance area with slippers in various sizes.

Outdoor Area:

* Small fenced, partially covered area with table and benches, fire pit, rocket stove, solar oven, various herb plants, firewood, 2 rainwater collection barrels with 400l water as water supply (Nov-Apr).

* 2000m² unfenced area with meadows and woodland, space for a hammock in the shade, and 2 sun loungers.

Resource-Friendly Energy Supply:

* Two large solar panels provide the cabin with sufficient electricity.
* Reliable lighting and charging options for electronic devices.
* Good 4G network coverage for your communication needs.

Important Note:
Due to the secluded location and limited accessibility, regular inspection of the cabin by us is not possible. Therefore, we only rent to responsible guests who commit to leaving the cabin cleaned and in perfect condition upon departure. Every renter must diligently remove their own traces at the end of their stay.

Ideal for anyone who wants to experience a resource-friendly, minimalist lifestyle or is looking for an authentic off-grid experience. Experience the special charm of self-sufficient living in harmonious balance with nature!

During the summer season, the cabin has running spring water (not drinking water). In winter, water can be collected from a nearby spring, and two rainwater barrels are also available. The spring water must be filtered or boiled before drinking. For showering, there's a wood-fired boiler in summer or a solar shower. In winter, you can wash with heated water. The toilet is a dry composting toilet that needs to be emptied by guests. In winter, half a crate of wood is provided per overnight stay, and in summer, a quarter crate. Additional wood can be gathered by guests in dry weather.

Freely available and securely stocked are spices, salt, oil, vinegar, tea, coffee, sugar, powdered milk, and cocoa. However, it's likely there will be many more basic foodstuffs freely available. We regularly check the provisions and purchase new ones, as we sometimes have the opportunity to use the goods lift for their transport.







Available for a fee, we have white wine and red wine in Bag-in-Box for open pouring. Please deposit 2 Swiss francs per deciliter into the adjacent cash box or pay via Twint.

The area around Osogna in the Riviera Valley offers a wealth of discovery opportunities. Directly from the cabin, you can embark on beautiful hikes through chestnut forests and up the surrounding mountains. The nearby Ticino River invites you to swim in the summer, with several natural bathing spots in the vicinity. Culturally, the historic villages of the Riviera Valley are fascinating, with their typical Ticinese stone houses and charming 'grotti' (traditional restaurants). Bellinzona, with its UNESCO World Heritage castles, is only about a 20-minute drive away. For nature lovers, there are several impressive waterfalls to discover in the immediate surroundings, including the Cascata di Santa Petronilla. Lake Maggiore is reachable in about 30 minutes by car, where you can explore numerous water sports activities and picturesque lakeside towns.

To keep you snug during the cold season, we provide cozy sheepskins, warm blankets, and practical hot water bottles for the night. With the right warm clothing, you will experience a primitive winter magic that was once common in all mountain huts—rustic, close to nature, and full of unique charm.
