Questions and answers
Anyone, whether you are a private individual, run an agricultural or tourism business, represent an association or work for a municipality. As long as you fulfill your duties as a host, one camp is enough to join.
A Nomady camp is a place in nature. Suitable for tents, buses, campers and motorhomes. But we also have space for huts, tipis, yurts and special accommodation in the great outdoors. The sites and accommodation have something in common: their proximity to nature and their simplicity. Nomady stands for authenticity and tranquillity, that is our luxury.
None. However, a toilet close to the camp greatly enhances the campsite and is often requested by campers. They appreciate it and are prepared to pay more for such pitches. Large investments are not necessary.
Nothing! The creation of the offer is free of charge. Nomady currently charges a service fee of 10-15% when you register a booking. You can also delete your offer and your contact details at any time. We do not have any contract terms or notice periods.
The income varies greatly depending on the offer. You can build up a small side income of CHF/€ 2,000 per year or earn over CHF/€ 20,000 per year with several offers. The income from your guests will be transferred to your settlement account after the completed stay.
We take care of the booking process and make your administrative work easier. We also market the offers on various channels throughout Europe. You also have a personal contact person at your disposal. We seek proximity to our hosts and are transparent and fair.
Bookings and payments are made via our platform by credit card. You will receive the amount after the guests have stayed overnight. You can block time slots in which you do not wish to receive guests. You can also decline booking requests.
We do our best to ensure that all parties are happy and that the experiences are unforgettable. The rating function is very helpful in providing a transparent picture. We rely on respectful and truthful interaction in accordance with our Nomady Pact. We all conclude this together. In principle, it is about mutual respect for people and nature. This has worked well so far.
FAQ
With us, hosts share their most beautiful natural sites and accommodation with campers. We create a connection and promote sustainable and local tourism that benefits everyone.
Our mission is to bring hosts and campers together as easily as possible. To achieve this, we are constantly striving to improve the quality and functions of the website. We also do marketing, media work, build partnerships and of course we are your point of contact for problems and questions. The entire booking and payment process is handled by Nomady.
Nomady enables you as a private person or as a company to rent out your offer in nature. Associations, cooperatives or municipalities are also very welcome.
At Nomady, we distinguish between two categories of camps: "camping" and "accommodation". In the "Camping" category you will find idyllic places in the countryside for a tent, camper or motorhome. In the "Accommodation" category, we offer cabins, glamping and shelters, such as alpine huts, tiny houses, converted trailers or yurts. If you have an idyllic natural site or beautiful accommodation, you can create a free profile and create as many offers as you like.
Nomady stands for camping in nature, away from the crowds. Your nature pitch or accommodation should be in a beautiful, natural setting and offer space for relaxation. We are thinking of a great view, an idyllic location or proximity to a body of water (stream, river or lake). In the surrounding area there are opportunities for nature-related activities such as hiking, wildlife watching, biking, fishing, mushroom picking, etc. Not all criteria can always be met, and that's a good thing. After all, we are interested in a wide range of opportunities to sleep in nature.
A typical Nomady site has a fire pit, a table and bench for eating outside and, if possible, firewood. A toilet and drinking water right next to the camp or within walking distance are also useful.
However, we leave the equipment of your camp up to you as the host. It is important that the camper clearly recognizes in your offer what equipment he can expect.
We try to keep your workload as low as possible: You manage your bookings and your calendar, are the contact person for your guests and maintain your camp on site and on our platform. Ideally, you should check your bookings daily. It's up to you to decide how intensive the personal support for your guests on site is. Over time, you'll notice who needs how much attention anyway.
As a host, you also become part of our community. In doing so, you commit to our Nomady Pact. Its intention is to treat nature and people with respect and care.
We check all advertisements before they are published online. Together we discuss the content and images again. We want to continue to check the quality carefully and therefore reserve the right to reject, demand an improvement or even delete an offer if the quality is poor. We will be happy to advise you.
Creating a Nomady offer is free of charge. Nomady only earns money when the offer is booked. Depending on the amount of the booking, a service fee of between 10% and 15% will be charged. For bookings up to CHF 100, the fee is 15%. After that, the fee rate decreases linearly and reaches 10% for amounts of CHF 300.
Booking amount/service fee: CHF 100.00 = 15% CHF 200.00 = 12.5% CHF 300.00 = 10%
The service fee of 10-15% covers all costs. Included are the credit card fees of 2-4%. If tourist taxes are incurred, these must be deducted from the turnover. You can find out more about tourist taxes below.
It all depends on what your nature site or hut already offers. Our experience so far has shown that a few investments, such as a fire pit, a table with bench or a composting toilet, are worthwhile at the beginning. This increases the attractiveness of your offer and the willingness of campers to pay. It's worth it. We will be happy to advise you.
We recommend that you signpost the way to the camp and the camp on site. This will make your guests feel welcome and give them a good first impression of your camp. As a host, we offer you high-quality metal signs. You can purchase the signs from us at cost price. You can find more information here
.
In addition to many other benefits, you can build up an interesting income as a host. The income varies greatly depending on the offer. You can build up a small side income of CHF 2,000 per year or earn over CHF 20,000 per year with several offers. The income from your guests will be transferred to your settlement account after the completed stay.
You define the price yourself. You enter it manually in your offer and can adjust it at any time. You have the option of pricing different age groups individually, assigning a price to additional services and charging tourist tax if necessary. All of this is illustrated in an example when you create your offer under "Prices".
It's best to look at the offers of other hosts and compare them. This will give you an initial idea. Then set a price and observe the booking behavior of the campers. Demand will clearly show you whether the price is too high or too low. You can adjust the price at any time for future bookings. When checking your offer, we will also take a look at the price and advise you.
By making small investments in equipment and good images, you can increase the attractiveness and willingness to pay of your guests and thus charge slightly higher prices.
As a final tip, it is advisable to secure the first positive bookings at the beginning by offering a very attractive price. As described, the price can be adjusted at any time with just a few clicks.
Every offer at Nomady has a base price. This helps the camper to compare prices between the offers. The base price consists of the price per night per pitch and an adult price.
Each municipality regulates individually whether you have to pay tourist taxes and how high they are. Not every municipality levies such taxes to promote tourism. They are mainly to be found in tourist areas.
Please contact your municipality or the local tourism organization for more information. Tourist taxes are part of your income. So include them in your base price. You are obliged to register yourself.
Yes, if you offer an offer in the "Accommodation" category. You have the option of setting a one-off cleaning fee.
Yes, under "Equipment" you have a choice of different billing methods for charging the additional electricity costs.
Yes, under "Equipment" you can choose from different forms of payment for the firewood you provide.
We take care of all payment transactions.
The camper enters their credit card details when booking the offer on Nomady. Payment is currently only possible by credit card. We will charge this when the booking is finalized.
As the host, you provide us with your bank details once. Around 7 days after the guest's camping stay, the amount, minus the Nomady fees, will be transferred to your account.
Nomady charges a service fee to the host and the camper when a booking is made. This helps us to survive as a company and to continue to connect you as a host with campers. We invest the fees mainly in the following areas:
Community support: Your concerns are our concerns. We want to support you when needed. We offer the same service to campers. We keep personal support high. You can contact us at any time!
Marketing: We know how important it is for you as a host to get enough bookings. We support you in achieving your goals by investing heavily in guest marketing. Among other things, we maintain our social media channels, produce content for our blog and book advertising space.
Product development: Developers, designers and product managers work in the background to ensure that our platform runs smoothly. We continue to develop the website, add new functions and fix problems. The user-friendliness of the website is crucial to the success of our platform and your offer.
Cooperation: As always in life, we are stronger together. With this in mind, we use our resources for target-oriented cooperation with a wide range of partners from the industry. This will attract new travelers as well as new hosts.
Nomady works with the payment provider Stripe. For security reasons, Stripe must verify your identity for payment transactions. Every host or camper must go through the identification process once. This data is stored.
Nomady does not currently offer its own insurance. All insurances are therefore the sole responsibility of the users. Nomady recommends that all users (hosts and campers) take out comprehensive insurance cover. We are working on a suitable Nomady insurance solution. We will communicate this as soon as we are ready.
The legal situation in Europe regarding camping on private land differs from country to country, from region to region and even from municipality to municipality.
As a host, you are always responsible for complying with the legal framework of your municipality. Camping on private land is still in its infancy. It is therefore possible that you will not find clear regulations in your country, region or municipality.
In practice, we often find that the municipality has a very positive attitude towards Nomady. Especially if no structural measures are necessary and you as the host take care of peace and order, in most cases nothing stands in the way of a Nomady offer. We are happy to support you with any questions.
Yes, of course. You should take breaks too. Under "My offers" you can click on "Manage availability" for the respective offer and then update the calendar. Click on a date to turn it red and block it. If you click on the same date again, it will turn white again and will be open for bookings again. Please do not forget to save the changes by clicking on the button at the bottom of the page.
The camper books your offer on Nomady.camp or in the app. Depending on the booking option, they can book directly or only after you have confirmed their booking. Nomady distinguishes between "booking request" and "direct booking". We'll tell you more about these booking options in a moment.
To minimize your effort and protect your privacy, the camper cannot contact you before booking.
They will only be able to write to you via our platform when they make a booking request. They will also receive access to further private information with the booking confirmation. This includes the exact location of the camp, your telephone number and information on how to get there, handing over the keys or arrival time.
"Booking request" means that the camper first sends you a booking request during the booking process. As the host, you can then decide whether to accept or decline the booking. It is your right to reject booking requests. Write to the camper explaining why you have rejected their request.
If you decide to accept the booking request, you should make sure that there is only a short time between the booking request and your response (acceptance or rejection). The camper naturally wants to know as soon as possible whether they can camp with you. You only have 48 hours to respond to the request.
With a "direct booking", a camper can book your offer immediately, provided the desired date is free in the calendar. A manual confirmation from you is not necessary, nor is it possible. The booking is definite. Cancellation is only possible in the form of a withdrawal.
The "direct booking" option is very popular with campers, as it allows them to book their adventure very spontaneously. For you as a host, however, this means that guests can also arrive at very short notice. Your camp should therefore be ready.
The better and more complete your description of the offer is, the fewer questions you will receive as a host. You should collect repetitive questions about your offer and mention them in the offer description or in the private information for the camper, which will only be communicated after the successful booking.
As soon as a booking request or direct booking has been made, you can communicate with the camper in the corresponding booking. You will find the list of bookings in the menu item "Bookings". The camper will find your cell phone number in the booking details. We recommend that you communicate with the camper via our platform.
Currently, all notifications are automatically sent to your email address. We will soon integrate a feature that will allow you to control the notification settings more precisely. Just be patient.
In the menu under "Bookings", you will find all future and past bookings. A call history is opened for each booking. You can use the available filter functions to sort the bookings by recency and status. This ensures a better overview.
Unfortunately, there is not yet a calendar with this overview. We are constantly expanding and improving the options for managing bookings.
In your offer profile, under "Rules", you determine how you want your guests to arrive. You can choose between the two options "With welcome" or "Self check-in":
With the "Welcome" option, the camp is handed over by the host. With this option, you should define a handover time with your campers after booking. Either you write the preferred arrival time directly in the camper's private information under "Location | Contact" or you ask the camper about their preferences.
With "Self Check-in" there is not necessarily a personal greeting. You allow your guest to drive directly to the camp. The important thing with this option is that the guest knows exactly where they can camp and where to find everything else thanks to your booking details and the signs on site.
There are six cancellation options
Super Flex: Campers have the option to cancel at check-in time on the date of arrival and receive a full refund of the booking amount minus the service fee. The check-in time on the arrival date is decisive for the calculation of the deadline.
Flex: Campers have the option of canceling up to 24 hours before arrival and will receive a full refund of the booking amount minus the service fee. The check-in time on the arrival date (minus 24 hours) is decisive for the calculation of the deadline.
Easy: Campers have the option of canceling up to 3 days before arrival and will receive a full refund of the booking amount minus the service fee. The check-in time on the date of arrival (minus three calendar days) is decisive for the calculation of the deadline.
Medium: Campers have the option of canceling up to 10 days before arrival and will receive a full refund of the booking amount minus the service fee. The check-in time on the arrival date is decisive for the calculation of the deadline (minus ten calendar days).
Strict: Campers have the option of canceling up to 30 days before arrival and will receive a full refund of the booking amount minus the service fee. The check-in time on the date of arrival (minus thirty calendar days) is decisive for the calculation of the deadline.
None: Campers do not have the option to cancel. The entire booking amount including the service fee will be charged, even if the camp is not used during the booked period. A refund is excluded.
In this case, you will receive a message in the "Bookings" section. The date will automatically be released again so that other campers can book. Your choice in the cancellation conditions determines the conditions under which the camper can cancel.
This function is not yet available. In this case, please contact our customer service.
You can simply block the dates in the calendar on which your offer cannot be booked. We do not recommend that you close the offer (by clicking on the three dots next to the respective offer under "Your offers"). This would also prevent bookings for the upcoming spring and summer.
Nomady allows campers and hosts to leave reviews. Good reviews help you to market your offer better. You can also use the rating about campers to get an idea of the potential guest. Your rating helps campers and future hosts.
Submitting a rating is voluntary and does not happen automatically.
The process works as follows: After the stay, both parties are asked to write a review. In the first week after the stay, you will only be able to view the other person's rating if you also write a rating. After one week, mutual but also one-sided reviews become public.
The rating function is very helpful in providing a transparent picture of the camper, host and camp. We rely on respectful and truthful treatment in accordance with our Nomady Pact.
For the sake of transparency, neither campers nor hosts can change or delete their reviews. However, if a review is incorrect or offensive, please contact us.
We are sorry that you had a bad experience. In order to keep the reviews truthful and transparent, both positive and negative feedback are justified. Please describe your experience constructively, objectively, truthfully and in a respectful tone. Please seek a conversation with the camper and describe what you did not like. Please contact us if a public review is not appropriate.
In the header area or in the menu on our website you will find "+Become a host" at the top right. Here you will be guided step by step through the offer creation process. It takes about 30 minutes. Don't worry, it's very simple and self-explanatory. In addition, your offer will not go online straight away, but will first be viewed by us. At this stage, only you and we can see the quote. So you can "test" and tinker. Your data will be saved on every page (if you click on "Save" at the bottom of the page). This means you can spread the creation of your quote over several days.
Creating an offer is free of charge. You can also delete your offer and your contact details at any time. We do not have any contract terms or notice periods.
Do you need help creating your quote? We are happy to help.
Yes, you can make changes at any time under "Edit offer" in "My offers". We even ask you to keep your offer up to date at all times. The quality and accuracy of the offers is very important to us.
We leave that up to you. We recommend starting with one or two offers and growing slowly. You can offer both "camping" and "accommodation".
If your nature site offers enough space for several groups of guests, you can enter the number of pitches in your offer accordingly. Your nature site can then be booked multiple times. However, the pitches must be practically identical and have the same facilities. Otherwise we ask you to create two offers with different names. Please also note that the maximum number of people, which you can also define, refers to one pitch. This means that this number (max. number of people) is always a multiplier of the number of places.
You want the name of your offer to set you apart from other offers. It should therefore be unique, attractive, short and easy to remember. For example, include the name of the place, river or mountain. Is there something special that can be seen or experienced from there? What was the place called by your ancestors? Be creative! And don't forget, brevity is the spice of life!
The description of your offer is the heart of your offer. It should make it clear to the guest what to expect.
What is special about your spot? What are the surroundings like? What can you see from the camp?
What are the distances to the infrastructure? Please refrain from including e-mail addresses, telephone numbers and websites in the description.
You can go into more detail under "Facilities". So make sure that the description primarily whets your appetite for more.
With more and more offers on the platform, the first impression is becoming increasingly important. Good pictures help to present and market your camp better.
Make sure you have good lighting conditions and use a good camera. A cell phone camera with good resolution is also possible. Give the campers an overview. Make it clear with your pictures where the tent, bus or camper can be placed and you should also be able to answer questions about the surroundings, landscape and facilities. Photograph the site from a wide variety of perspectives.
Take pictures from a distance, capture the immediate surroundings. Take pictures of the fireplace, table and bench, toilet. Start your picture gallery with a meaningful and attractive cover photo.
Tip: Ask your first guests if you can take a few pictures of the "real" camping situation.
Here you will find a checklist and a few additional tips for the perfect camping pictures. The eye camps with you (PDF)
Tip: Picture descriptions help the guest to follow your usual eye and get a good overview.
Our campers love to make their own campfire. They are often denied this opportunity on normal campsites. Unfortunately, entire regions are increasingly having to ban fires due to periods of drought. In such cases, we ask you to make your guests aware of this. As responsible campers, they will understand.
Many campers are self-sufficient. The option to use electricity, whether for small appliances or the van, is still very popular. You can decide here what you want to offer and at what price.
The decision is up to you. If you are unsure, we recommend including the firewood in the rental price as a first step. The experience of the first guests will show how much wood is actually needed.
No, drinking water or running water is not mandatory, but very welcome. A water source can be a well, a tap at the barn or a stream with drinkable water.
Please describe in the offer where the nearest well is or where else fresh water can be obtained if there is no direct access to water. In this case, some hosts offer a small water canister to borrow.
Campers usually have to wash their dishes at some point during their stay. It is of course practical if there is also a storage area or a tub for this at the water source.
As the host, you decide whether the campers should dispose of the waste on site or whether they should take the waste with them and dispose of it themselves.
In our Nomady Pact, we clearly state that the campers leave your site as they found it.
Our experience so far has shown that a garbage bag that you provide and can be handed in at the end is very much appreciated.
A toilet close to the camp greatly enhances the campsite and is often requested by campers. They appreciate it and are prepared to pay more for such pitches.
The WC can be located near the courtyard/main house. A walking distance of 200m, for example, is perfectly acceptable. Our experience shows that people are happy to take a walk to the toilet if the pitch is idyllic.
If no toilet is available and the distance is too far, we recommend building or buying a composting toilet. These can be very cost-effective solutions. We will be happy to advise you.
Being able to freshen up for the next adventure is a clear upgrade and is a good reason for many campers to pay a little more. Whether you want to offer an outdoor shower or access to a regular shower, you are welcome to include this in the price.
We recommend that you signpost the way to the camp and the camp itself. This will make your guests feel welcome and give them a good first impression.
As a host, we offer you high-quality metal signs. You can obtain the signs from us at cost price. More information here
.
In such a case, simply enter the nearest address. The directions, which can be entered under "Location | Contact", are then all the more important. The map function, where you can set pins, also helps if there is no exact address for the location. Important: Your guest will only receive all this information after the booking has been confirmed.
All Nomady users, hosts and campers, are committed to the Nomady Pact. This pact is about a basic attitude, about respect for people and nature. Details are not regulated. You can set your own camping rules under "Rules". If they are particularly important to you, you can also send them to the camper again before they book. Or mention them in the booking details at the latest.
When creating your offer, you can fill in the following information under "Location | Contact":
- The exact address of the camp
- Your telephone number
- Further information such as directions, registration, handover, additional telephone numbers etc.
- Map of the camp with marking of firewood, toilet, water point etc.
Campers will only receive this information after the booking has been confirmed.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. But these points will help you:
- Design and maintain your offer with care
- Keep your offer and availability calendar up to date
- Respond to booking requests or messages quickly and in a friendly manner
- Coherent offer profile with a simple and understandable description
- High-quality and meaningful images
- Many and up-to-date reviews
- Advise guests on activities in the region and provide information material
- Create additional offers such as bread service, products from the farm, etc.
- Promote your offer and share the link to your Nomady offer on your own social media channels or, if available, on your own website.
- Apply to us for a blog post (host portrait). In addition to the report, this will result in social media posts.
You can change your email address in "My account" under "Contact details".
It is currently only possible to close an offer. You can do this in "Your offers" under the corresponding offer. There you will find three dots. Click on them to see the option to close the offer.
No, images created by Nomady or a Nomady Scout are only permitted on the Nomady.ch website. For any other use, please contact us and we will look at it together.
We have two different newsletters. One with specific topics for you as a host and one for our campers. You will receive the host newsletter automatically. It contains all important changes and innovations to our platform. It is our main tool for communicating with you. We also recommend that you subscribe to the campers' newsletter. This will keep you up to date there too.
Follow us on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn.
Nomady has high quality standards for its camps. That's why we will contact you personally as a host to make sure that you are the person who belongs to the profile. Don't worry, we won't pester you with questions.
Verified means that a Nomady scout has checked the accuracy of your details on site and photographed the camp. Our verification offer includes verification, photography and a high-quality metal sign. With the increasing number of camps, a trustworthy offer is becoming ever more important. Here you can find our offer for verification and photography.
