Did you know that there are several UNESCO routes in Germany? The best road trip starts at the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea and takes you through Hanseatic cities and three national parks in just one week.

A special insider tip is the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park, which offers miles of beaches and beautiful camping spots. At the end of the day, you’ll always find yourself near the water – either with your feet in the sand or sitting on a bench at one of the North German harbors.

Do you have three to four weeks and want to see as much of Germany as possible? Then you should take a closer look at the German Avenue Road. Stretching over 2,900 kilometers, this panoramic road winds like a green ribbon from the island of Rügen to Lake Constance. Here, you’ll literally drive from the mountains to the sea – or from the sea to the mountains.

Germany's longest holiday route is divided into several stages. You can choose the section that best fits your travel plans. Generally, the avenues in northern and Eastern Germany are better preserved than those in the southern regions. There are plenty of campsites along the road – from rustic to luxurious.

Route of Rhine Romance

The Rhine Valley boasts a thousand-year history and is undoubtedly one of the scenic highlights in Germany. Castles, vineyards, and of course, the Rhine itself define the region. In 2002, the Upper Middle Rhine Valley was even designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 360-kilometer route stretches from Cologne to Mainz, taking you through three federal states – always following the Rhine. You can take a break at the many campsites along the water, such as the Knaus campsite in Koblenz. Don't miss: the water castle in Bingen am Rhein and the city of Koblenz, where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet at the Deutsches Eck.
